Yet again we have a vicious easterly wind coming straight off the sea. There is snow still laying in places. Yet the sun has shone all day which is a cheerful glimpse of spring that will surely arrive sometime. I made two loaves of bread using Marraiges flour for one and Allinsons for the other as a trial to see why my bread hasn’t always been as good as it once was. Then I turned a very cheap loaf of coop brown bread into breadcrumbs, dried them in the Rayburn oven and popped them in the freezer where they store really well, being right ready to use for scotch eggs or toppings for a pasta bake or for coating fishcakes. I can remember many many years ago I used to buy pre- packed breadcrumbs – a strange orange colour- are they still around?
Another freezing day
